Fishing Boston's North Shore

Come fish the rocky coastline and sandy beaches along Cape Ann's shores with veteran Capt. John T. Pirie. Capt. Pirie has fished these waters for the last 25 years and knows them intimately. A day's fishing trip will take you to a diverse group of fishing environments. Casting into surf breaking against the many rocky islands along this scenic coast allows anglers the thrill of hooking large stripers in their preferred habitat. As the captain positions the boat tight to the rocks, anglers cast their flies within inches of the shore. Stripers often feed close in the surf and foam. Our next stop might be one of the tidal estuaries and rivers found along Boston's North Shore or we may move a short distance offshore to one of the many rock ledges to be found nearby. These ledges allow anglers the opportunities to catch the large bass and bluefish which frequent these areas. In addition to the lack of crowds and angling pressure that Cape Ann offers, one is able to visit these diverse fishing spots without spending valuable time traveling. All of these areas can be reached within a 3 mile radius of our dock. This means no more than ten minutes of traveling since our 27' Boston Whaler is powered by twin Yamaha 250 h.p. engines capable of pushing this boat in excess of 50 M.P.H.! Come join us for a day you won't soon forget. We have a full time mate who works on the boat and is an experienced casting instructor. All equipment and flies will be provided by us.

Shark Fishing

Flyfishing for sharks! Until you have experienced the thrill of sight casting to 6-10 foot sharks as they surround the boat on a beautiful summer's day it is hard to imagine what this popular new fishery is all about. We take groups of up to five anglers offshore from mid-July to October in pursuit of these beautiful pelagic sharks. While blue sharks are by far the most common and cooperative of the species we target, encounters with wild Mako's as well as Porbeagle and Thresher sharks occur each summer. While we do carry conventional tackle for the largest of these fish, fly fishing clients regularly land fish in the 8-10 foot range.

All bookings are made in advance. You will receive a faxed or mailed confirmation of your trip within three days of making the arrangements. Let us introduce you to all that Boston's North Shore has to offer. Call for a free video and trip availability.

 Capt. Dave Rimmer

Capt. Dave Rimmer has been fly fishing the productive striped bass and bluefish waters of the North Shore of Massachusetts for the past three decades. Specializing in fly fishing and light tackle spinning, Dave has guided anglers from shore for Orvis and River's Edge for many years and is now a licensed US Coast Guard captain. Primarily, he fishes the lower sections of the magnificent Merrimack River in Newburyport, MA, where he works its endless holes, deep-cut marsh banks, mud flats, mussel and sand bars, and fast-flowing river mouth rips. But he also ventures beyond the river mouth to fish the beaches and salt marshes around the legendary Plum Island. Depending on the time of year, you may find yourself sight fishing to cruising fish in shallow water using an 8-weight and a floating line with a crab fly, deep drifting across structure with a 10-weight and a full sinking line with a herring fly or casting into schools of breaking fish with a 9-weight and a popper. Every day and every trip are different, depending on tides, weather and month. And you never know when that next fish might be a trophy.

His boat is a 2001 customized 22-foot Pathfinder bay boat equipped with modern electronics and safety features. Designed and built in Florida specifically for inshore fishing, this shallow draft center-console can sneak into a foot of water while also remaining comfortable and dry while running in open water. Powered by a Honda 130 horsepower engine, the boat is also equipped with twin trim-tab electric trolling motors ideal for a quiet approach to fish. Dave is also a qualified casting instructor who can really help improve your technique. He is prepared to supply all the rods, reels, custom-tied flies and other gear you might need, and drinks and snacks are always on board.

Finally, Dave is a life-long conservationist who has been involved in coastal and marine conservation his entire adult life. If interested, he can share with you his knowledge of important marine conservation issues as well as local natural history. So come and enjoy a full or half day (or customize a trip) with a knowledgeable guide on an awesome boat fishing for stripers and blues on some of the most spectacular ocean waters in New England. Call the shop or directly to 978-463-3378 and we will set up a trip that works for you.

Dan Harrison

Fishing Millers and Deerfield rivers

Harrison Anglers is a partnership between Dan and Tom Harrison. We have been fishing since we were very young and it has become a major part of our lives. We were introduced to fly fishing by our family at an early age and have loved it ever since. It became a favorite hobby and passion of my brother Dan first and then I too began to practice the art. Although a hobby at first, we have been professionally guiding fly fishing trips for the last three years, primarily for Glacier Anglers in pristine Glacier National Park, MT. Dan attended Sweetwater Travels' guide certification course on the Bighorn River in Montana and with the help of Ron Meek, got a job guiding in Glacier. I was also hired as a guide and our guiding careers began. The memories and experiences we have had in Glacier can not be replaced and have given us a new perspective on fly fishing. The next step in our journey is to begin guiding trips in the Western Massachusetts area. We have planned this for years and finally have equipment, knowledge and experience to provide float trips on the rivers we grew up fishing.
