Special Events     Gun Dog Training Schools Date : Saturday July 19th Time: 8:00am - 5:00pm Cost: $225.00 Rivers Edge and Greys Outfitting are excited to offer gun dog training schools this summer. These schools will take place on a beautiful 680 acre farm in Peterborough New Hampshire with spectacular views of the Mount Monadnock region. This is a great opportunity to work your dog on live birds and get ready for the upcoming season. Here is the outline for the first school. Intermediate Pointer Training July  2008 A common problem that we see here is that many people start their dog's training curriculum, but they don't know where to go from there. Come spend a day with us and work on what we term as an "intermediate" seminar. We're briefly cover some starting points and foundation builders, only to move on and start covering new ground that will help you bring your dog farther in their training and experience level. Learn how to combat common problems that people experience as they gain ground on their training plan. You'll learn how to set up that training plan, and put it into action to benefit you and your dog. We'll also cover remote commands such as whoa and any turning command you desire. Take the mystery out of working toward that finished pointing dog. By doing this you'll be able to see your effort working for both you and your dog, as well as pick up and retain the training methods that we use to ready our own dogs for guiding season. The result is a dog that is energetic, confident, and eager to please you. Garret Booth is a Registered Maine and New Hampshire Hunting and Fishing Guide, and has been running Grey’s with his wife Nellie for six years. Both Nellie and Garret have trained gun dogs extensively for the past fifteen years along with guiding hunts in both New Hampshire and Maine.   For dog training, Grey’s is based out of Peterborough New Hampshire. Operating on a 680 acre rolling hay farm, we enjoy liberal amounts of birds specifically used for training purposes for both one on one sessions with owners, or boarding dogs enrolled in a training program.  With a thorough knowledge of all facets of dog training and handling for the gun, Garret can provide necessary insight both in a training atmosphere, or through coaching during guided hunts to polish up those few last details on your bird dog (or duck dog). With gourmet meals offered on all outings, incredible bird numbers, and your dogs or the dogs from Grey’s, an incredible day afield is just around the corner.   Rivers Edge North Shore Scholarship Fund Fishing Tournament June15th - September 30th Only $10.00. All proceeds this year will be awarded to a graduating senior at Ipswich High School. There are two divisions: Fly Fishing and Spin fishing. The tournament is open to both wade and boat fishing. This is a catch and release tournament. To enter a fish for the awards a picture must be taken with a tape measure clearly visible measuring the fish. Fish should be measured from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail. You should also measure the girth as that will be used in the event of a tie. You may enter as many fish as you want, but only your single largest catch in each division is eligible for an award. On Thursday evening October 9th there will be an awards presentation and raffle at 7:00pm at the Hamilton -Wenham Community House on Rt. 1A. There will also be a cash bar and hors doeurves. Come to think about it; is your dog ready for an e-collar? If so, which one should you go with? What should you be looking for in an e-collar?  Come spend the day with Gun Dog Trainer Garret and Nellie Booth of Grey’s Outfitting. Garret and Nellie run a full time gun dog training and guiding service in both New Hampshire and Maine, and have nearly thirty years experience between them both.  Come see their method of introducing a dog to an e-collar for the first time, which tools are necessary when doing so, signs to look for, and a goal to set for yourselves and your dog during this complex stage in training. As a matter of fact, as complex as it may seem, Garret and Nellie can break it down for you into simple, elementary steps that will have you excited and educated about this important decision in your dog’s training. In the event you’re unsure if this is the right decision to make, come ask questions and participate without your dog.     Seminars 2008 Each year Rivers Edge Trading Company runs a seminar series at the store on 43 Enon Street (Route 1A) in Beverly, MA. Seminars feature both local and national speakers covering a wide variety of topics in the fly fishing, surf casting and shooting fields. He will cover the Lefty's Flats Loop, Uni Knot, Palomar Knot, Blood Knot, Albright Knot, and the Slim Beauty.    Fly tying materials and their uses - Paul Bell This seminar will help better prepare you for the flies you are tying. We will work with both salt and freshwater materials covering the how and why to apply them to the hook so that the fly fishes properly and also holds up to the rigors of casting and catching fish. If you want to bring in any materials that are giving you pr0blems, feel free to do so.   . 2008 Tying Classes   Rivers Edge is one again offering our fly tying instruction program. We will meet on selected Thursday evenings in January, February and March at 6:30pm. All classes will be free of charge. One of the tiers on staff will conduct the session and students will be expected to bring their own materials. The students who attended the classes may enter if the choose. Mystery hook and materials will be provided and tiers will have to come up with a fly of their choosing. Flies will be judged on creativity and  proportions. We will have a surprise for the winner of the contest.    2008 Fly Casting Schools    One Day Casting Schools: $95.00   ONE DAY SCHOOLS These full day, introductory Fly Fishing Schools are taught by experienced Orvis © instructors who offer the novice fly fisherman a chance to become comfortable with techniques , equipment and terminology. All classes are taught in comfortable surroundings with both classroom and on the water instruction. Included in the school is: Lunch All Orvis © rods, reels, and lines for casting instruction An overview on fly fishing equipment Casting instruction including back casting, shooting line and roll casting Terminal tackle including leaders and knots Fly selection and information on fish behavior and environment How to hook, fight, land, and release fish  Cost is $95.00. Payment in full is required to secure your place in the school. A 2-week notice is required should you need to cancel. Its location, which is 12 degrees north of the equator and 80 miles off the northern coast of Venezuela, provides a perfect environment, where the sun arcs overhead in perfect 12 hour intervals, and thus, ensures the most stable and reliable environment and tides for saltwater fishing. Rivers Edge has led many trips to Los Roques and we keep going back. The people are friendly, the guides are excellent, and the fishing is great. Bone fish average about 5 pounds and there are plenty of chances to cast to fish up to 10 pounds. This is a 7 night 6 day package.
