Parker,
Rowley, Ipswich Rivers, and Plum
Island Sound
The start of the spring run is well under way which is typical around
Mother's Day. All of the river systems have school bass starting to show up
in good numbers. If you're searching for numbers of bass the usual E.P's,
Flat wings, and clouser minnows always produce fish. The best flies for big
bass this time of year are big herring flies at the river mouths or in deep
channels. The fish are seeking out warmer water and large meals after the
long trip.

River August 2005
Crane
Beach,
Essex River, Castle Neck River, and Annisquam River
The Castle Neck River had fish
popping on the surface at night last
night on the incoming tide. Do not
count out night fishing for it
always produces bigger fish. The
fish are feeding on small baits with
slashing rises. EP's, Rays Flies,
Flat wings and Clousers almost
always produce school bass. My best
luck on the Essex has been with
large Herring flies on fast nine and
ten weights and 300-350grn lines.
Spring rains and flood tides change
the color of the water from clear to
stained. Bright colored flies and
heavier tippets are the norm this
time of year. As the plant life
grows and the water clears up drop
down to 10-12lb test for best
results.

Cape Ann -Salem Sound
The Lead Mills and Salem Power Plant
have been producing the best fishing
on the outgoing tides. Morning tides
this week have been producing the
best action with flies and lures.
The weekend tides should produce
plenty of action with small flies
and Slugo type baits. The Little
river By The candy shop is also
producing school bass.

and another. Nice work guys!

Cape Cod

Truro
As we all know the fishing on the Cape has been well under way for
weeks now and word is the south side has been fishing very well. Especially
down in Cotuit. Next week is traditionally very good blue fishing with squid
patterns and poppers. Most guys fish from the shore but the few hardy souls
who wade out to reach the fish blitzing on squid do quite well.

Steelhead on the Salmon River
Ipswich River
Anglers were catching small
rainbows below the Foote
Brothers canoe rental area on
olive krystal buggers. Other
reports coming in were
disappointing with fisherman
reporting no action at all.
Swift River

Jennifer Lawrance with a
swift river rainbow
Fisherman are reporting good
fishing on the Swift. San Juan
worms and small nymphs have been
working well.
Deerfield River
The Deerfield fished well
last week on the lower Section
at Bardswell Ferry. Fish were
taking #14 Dk Quills on the
surface. Most were browns in the
15-16'' range with one really
nice fish coming in at about
19''.

fishing!!! Thank You

Lamprey River - Lee,
Durham NH
Fishing was poor on the
Lamprey this week due to the
heavy rains over the weekend.
Fisherman said the river rose
close to a foot and fishing was
tough.

Souhegan River - Greenville NH
We fished the trout
management area this week and it
was slow. We took a couple of
nice rainbows and that was it.
This is a beautiful piece of
water if you you like fast water
with lots of boulders and deep
pockets. There was a lot of
insect activity with an
abundance of caddis and
hendricksons but no fish feeding
as far as we could tell. I will
definitely try this section
again soon.
Sugar River - Newport NH
The fly fishing only section
was producing some nice rainbows
on brown/olive buggers this past
week.
Sky Pond - Barrington NH
Stonehouse fished great on
Tuesday evening once the midge
hatch decided to happen. Because
of breezy conditions it wasn't
till about 7:00pm that the hatch
came off. Fishing was fast and
furious for about an hour with
many fish taken just below the
surface on a #18 Rojo midge.
Typical NH brookies in the 9 to
11 inch range though I did take
one fish about 15''.
Archery Pond - Allenstown
NH
Some good size rainbows were
taken from this small pond last
week. Nymphing with a very slow
retreive was taking some very
nice fish. This pond is located
in Bear Brook State Park.
